'First Night'
A Wizard show from youngsters

The Wonderful Wizard of OZ
The Jane Mackinnon School of Dance,
The Point, Eastleigh

WELL done to the pupils of Jane Mackinnon's dance school who delighted audiences this weekend with their spectacular charity production of The Wonderful Wizard Of OZ.

The show features an eclectic range of dance styles from ballet and tap to disco and even line dancing, which the 200 strong cast performed energetically. Katie Tuck as Dorothy moved with grace and style, while never far from her side was Toto the dog (Emma Godsall), who gave a sprightly

performance. Natalie Burnage, Joanna Harris and Susie Carter as the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion portrayed their characters with wit and zest. However, it is a shame that they only spoke along to the song 'If I Only Had A Heart'.
The music included traditional favourites from the MGM film and funky blues and soul tunes from the lesser-known Broadway adaptation 'The Wiz'. The set was a blaze of light and colour and the special effects added a touch of terror in the right places.
There were some accomplished solo performances, especially from Trixi Tat (as the Good Witch).
The show was a stunning example of team effort, and the cast excelled in their dancing.

Emma Reed.
